Is some packaging better than others? See an interesting article here. 19/3/2007 It seems that Scotland is ahead of the rset of us in the UK when it comes to tackling issues on the environment and sustainability. SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) have just produced a good waste prevention guide, which you can access here (big file, takes a short while to load). It starts with the focus and organisation of good campaign and goes on to the specifics of waste aware shopping, junk mail, etc. What is clear in the context of Newcastle's Waste Strategy is that good campaigns to achieve results need resourcing. 5/3/2007 The North East Assembly, which governs the Regional Spatial Strategy and through that the Regional Waste Strategy recently held a meeting to discuss the seeming anomaly in projected figures for waste produced in the region. It is all a very complex and esoteric process. I bet that those of you that voted 'No' to the idea of a Regional Assembly did not realise that we have an unelected one anyway? Well that's what you get for voting the wrong way as far as the Government is concerned. One of our more intrepid volunteers attended the meeting and has tried to make sense of it for us. See Alice's report here.
