Zero Waste

Wealth from Waste
This is a very good, easy to navigate site that concentrates on the message that our resources are too good to waste. See in particular the links to Resource Recovery Parks around the world, which are a more progressive version of our Civic Amenity Sites.

Resource Recovery Forum

The Resource Recovery Forum is an international non-profit network of 320 organisations interested in sustainable waste management - making better use of waste that is produced. RRF operates a great news service, delivered daily (up to 1,000 items pa, no ads, no attachments, just useful and topical information on policy & practice from around the world) or as weekly digests. A single member organisation can add unlimited numbers of employees to this fine facility. Also, the items are archived online and are fully searchable.

Zero Waste Alliance (Ireland)
Another good site on the need for a zero waste policy and ways to realise it.

Campaign Websites

GAIN (Guildford Anti-Incinerator Network)
Besides being a good site about a campaign against a particular incinerator (or possibly a set of incinerators) GAIN has a very comprehensive set of links to other campaigns, local and national organisations.  See, in particular, the link to Greenpeace's model of how an incinerator works.

DOVE (Defenders of the Ouse Valley and Estuary)
DOVE has a excellent site, some of the best qualities of which we have copied and adapted for our site.  Once again look to the links it makes to other campaigns and organisations.

York Residents Against Incineration

This group has a new website that imaginativeley shows the possible aesthetic effect of placing an incinerator at one of Yorkshire's beauty spots.

National Organisations

Recycling and Waste minimisation organisations

Recycle Now
The national recycling promotion organisation.

Lets Recycle

The homepage has links to many interesting facts in the world of recycling.  If you have a look at the prices for recyclates section, for example, you will see that the price of many forms of plastic has practically doubled in the last two years.

The Composting Association
Very much as it's name suggests and a very useful organisation of which we are members.

The Community Recycling Network
The Community Recycling Network UK is a membership organisation promoting community based sustainable waste management as a practical and effective way of tackling the UK's growing waste problem

Government Departments

DEFRA (Department for the Environment Farming and Rural Affairs)
This is a large central government department.  Many of us would say too large.  Two of the most relevant departments are: Recycling and Waste
and Sustainable Development

DTI (Department of Trade and Industry)
Try the Sustainable Development and Environment section

Newcastle City Council

For a direct link to our authorities recycling information pages click here.

Woking Borough Council

One of best local authorities in the country fo promoting sustainable practices is Woking. Have a look at it's excellent recycling web pages here.

Commercial Organisations

SITA
The biggest player on the block.

Local Links

Recyke'y'Byke

Dedicated to the renovation and reuse of bicycles for here and shipment to Africa this dynamic organisation has set up at the Byker Arches.

NOtoLANDFILL
A dynamic group set up to oppose the extension of the landfill site at Seghill in South East Northumberland.

Sustainability and doing things differently

There is no point in reinventing the wheel here. In addition to a number of very good links to recycling and waste minimisation organisations Friends of the Earth have a full and comprehensive set of general links.
